Most of the pages on this web site offer our visitors (that’s you!) the option to see how our system works by texting the word “LocalText” to either our U.S. or Canadian short code. Directly below this, we feature the standard disclaimer…
“Maximum 4 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. For help, respond help, to stop, respond stop. We never share your data with 3rd parties!”
The last part – “We never share your data with 3rd parties!” – is something we added because we feel it is important (the official, recommended disclaimer does not need to include this line) and because, well… we don’t share your date with 3rd parties.
As a responsible provider of SMS / text message marketing services, part of our responsibility is to educate our customers so that they fully understand the importance of this disclaimer, and do our best to ensure that they feature it in all their promotional efforts.
Not surprisingly, some business owners see the disclaimer as a “barrier” to the subscription process; “fine print” that scares the customer away.
In reality, the disclaimer aides in the acquisition of subscribers.
Let’s face it, unless you have an incredible bond of trust established with each and every one of your customers, most people, when faced with an invitation to surrender their cell phone numbers, are going to have one or more of the following questions…
- How many messages am I going to receive?
- Will you spam me?
- Can I unsubscribe?
- How do I unsubscribe?
- Is there a fee?
- Is there someone I can contact or somewhere I can go if I have issues or complaints?
- How do I know my cell phone number will not be shared with third parties?
The disclaimer addresses these concerns, as well as demonstrates your commitment to openness and transparency. Its absence is conspicuous and suspicious, and accordingly, your customer or prospect has every right be hesitant. So use the disclaimer everywhere you promote the service.
